INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS


National Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany
PUCRS welcomed members of the National Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany (German Bundestag) headed by Manfred Zöllmer (Deputy Chairman of the German-Brazilian Parliamentary Friendship Group) and the Consulate General of Germany in Porto Alegre, represented by Dr. Stefan Traumann (General Consul). The German Bundestag members and the General Consul had a meeting with PUCRS’ authorities, headed by Prof. Draiton de Souza (Dean of the School of Humanities) and Prof. Abilio Baeta Neves (Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Development) aiming at promoting collaborative research projects. University of Groningen | the Netherlands
PUCRS welcomed authorities of the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) aiming to strengthen the collaborative partnership between both universities. The Dutch Delegation headed by Prof. Jasper Knoester (Vice-Rector & Dean Faculty of Mathematics & Natural Sciences) visited several PUCRS faculties, laboratories and administrative offices aiming to bring researchers and research groups of both universities together. PUCRS, by means of the School of Physics, headed by Prof. Ana Maria Marques (Head), and the University of Groningen have had cooperative agreements since 2010, aiming to promote the development of joint research projects, exchange of faculty and research staff, students, information and academic publications as well as promotion of scientific and cultural events. Concordia University of Edmonton | Canada
PUCRS welcomed Dr. Manfred Zeuch, Vice President for International and Research from Concordia University of Edmond (CUE), in Canada. Dr. Zeuch attended meetings at PUCRS’ Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Institute for the Environment, School of Biosciences and Office of Academic Mobility aiming to strengthen the partnership between both universities by discussing possible joint projects. San Diego State University | USA
Mrs. Maribel Franco, Senior Advisor and Study Abroad Advisor of the International Business Program, from San Diego State University (USA) visited PUCRS. Mrs. Maribel came to learn more about the University’s internship program and business curriculum at PUCRS’ Business School, headed by Prof. Alziro Rodrigues (Dean), and advise prospective study abroad applicants concerning the new student exchange cooperative agreement, signed by both universities, last year.More >>

Study in Holland | Nuffic Neso Brazil
The Nuffic Netherlands Education Support Offices, through a partnership with PUCRS, promoted the event Study in Holland – Open to International Minds. This international institution, which is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands, promotes Dutch higher education in Brazil, encourages institutional cooperation between Brazilian and Dutch universities, and develop alumni relations. Campus France Brasil
PUCRS, through a partnership with the Official Agency for the Promotion of French Higher Education (Campus France Brasil), from the French Embassy in Brazil, promoted the event Campus France Brasil 2016. The event addressed issues concerning application, diplomas, credit transfer, academic exchange and scholarship programs, for PUCRS students aiming to study in France. More >>

University of Bamberg | Germany
Dr. Enrique Rodrigues Moura, Director of the Department of Romance Languages from the University of Bamberg in Germany, visited PUCRS to discuss possible joint research projects and student exchanges. Dr. Moura is also in charge of the International Relations Office with the Ibero-American countries of the Faculty of Humanities and Culture from the University of Bamberg and headed the cooperative agreement signed along with PUCRS’ School of Letters last year. PUCRS welcomed representatives of the Department of Land Economy: Environment, Law & Economics of University of Cambridge, UK. Dr. Jean Francois Mercure, Dr. Pierre Bocquillon, Mr. Pablo Salas and Dr. Belinda Wu (Open University) attended meetings at PUCRS’ Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Development (PROPESQ), headed by Dr. Carlos Graeff Teixeira (Dean of Research at PROPESQ) and Dr. Marli Elizabeth Ritter dos Santos (Dean of the PUCRS’ Technology Transfer Office), to discuss possibilities of collaboration in research projects. PUCRS welcomed Ms. Annie Despatureaux, International Relations Coordinator at Toulouse Catholic University, in France. Ms. Despatureaux attended meetings at PUCRS’ Office of International and Institutional Affairs and School of Letters to discuss possible joint research projects and student exchanges.More >>

PUCRS’ Science and Technology Museum has been awarded with Newton Fund
The PUCRS’ Science and Technology Museum (MCT) and the British Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), are now partners. A project, coordinated by Prof. José Luis Ferraro (Educational Coordinator of MCT) and Bill Griffiths (Head of Programmes of TWAM), was selected by the British Council Brasil, at the Skills 2016, and will receive £ 120,000 from the Newton Fund, one of the most important British fund financing projects. FAUBAI
PUCRS, represented by the Office of International and Institutional Affairs and the Office of Academic Mobility, attended the annual meeting of FAUBAI (Brazilian Association for International Education) in Fortaleza, Ceará. The FAUBAI’s meeting is the largest international education event promoted in Brazil and the 2016 edition brought together more than 500 participants from 27 countries around the globe to discuss the issues related to social responsibility in the internationalization of Higher Education.

Smart City Innovation Center
PUCRS, through a partnership with Huawei Technologies - a leading company in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) solutions – opened the Smart City Innovation Center, located in the PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park. The Center is intended to become a research environment for the development of solutions for Smart Cities and Internet of Things (IoT). The Center is now in the agenda of the process of internationalization of Tecnopuc and research at PUCRS. Huawei is the first Chinese company to open its doors at Tecnopuc.

Microgravity Laboratory Buenos Aires
PUCRS has established a Microgravity Laboratory at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas of the Facultad de Ciencias Médicas of Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), under the coordination of Prof. Daniel Eduardo Vigo (UCA) and Prof. Thais Russomano (Head of PUCRS MicroG). The MicroG Lab Buenos Aires is the first laboratory established outside the University, which is part of the internationalization efforts of the PUCRS’ Microgravity Center.

Internationalization of Higher Education Seminar
The Graduate Program in Education (PPGEdu) and CEES (Higher Education Study Center) from PUCRS’ School of Education promoted the seminar Internationalization of Higher Education and Experiences from Students and Alumni of the Graduate Program in Education. The seminar focused on discussing the process of internationalization of higher education institutions from Brazil based on the experiences of former exchange students who exchanged abroad through scholarships, agreements, research groups, other models and/or partnerships.

PUCRS’ Infant Center
The Infant Center of PUCRS’ Institute for Biomedical Research (IPB) is now at the Science and Technology Park of PUCRS (TECNOPUC), aiming to develop innovative projects in education and professional training in children’s health. Additionally, the center will also host an Infant Office as a Collaborative Center for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in the area of environmental risks to children's health.

PUCRS Career Fair 2016
PUCRS’ Careers Office is promoting the Career Fair, from May 11 to 12. The Career Fair will be reaching its 5th edition as one of the nation's largest career events, as 20 thousand visitors and 87 different exhibition companies have taken part in the 4 previous editions. This year, in two days of activities, 50 large companies will be coming to the University to advertise job postings and opportunities, explain how the selection process works, spot future talents and present the culture of their organizations. It is the opportunity to bring students and professionals together in an environment designed for networking, training, lectures and business.

In the International Career Island, professionals and students from different countries will report how beneficial an international experience was to their careers, as well as the challenges and opportunities to engage in one of the world's largest economies. There will be a discussion on cultural diversity and how they are using their experience overseas as something unique to start their careers in their home countries.

All activities will be at no charge and take place at the Events Center of PUCRS (Building 41 of PUCRS Campus), from May 11 to 12, from 10am to 9pm.
