The Renewable Energy Engineering program of PUCRS’ School of Technology is the only one of its kind in the south of Brazil. The program aims to produce reflective, participatory and active professionals to improve the quality of life in society and coordinate, supervise and advise best practices for the most efficient and sustainable use of energy resources.
In the next 10 years, the Brazilian electric matrix will still be dominated by systems based on renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic systems, biomass, wind systems, among others. In this market, distributed generation and smart grids with energy storage will be of great importance. These resources will earn the system more flexibility and complexity, thus increasing the need for highly qualified professionals in the area. Renewable energy engineers can also work in the trade, energy management, energy efficiency and design and planning of energy systems, which are areas in high demand these days.
