The general goal of the program is to train professionals with solid and up-to-date insights into Physics and Mathematics to solve problems in the search for new advances in science and technology, with an investigative, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial spirit and respect for ethical values and the environment.
The program’s syllabus is comprehensive and flexible, as it seeks to develop skills and knowledge necessary for the current expectations of the job market. The program addresses Classical, Modern and Contemporary Physics, in a theoretical and experimental approach, with a focus on the connection between Physics and Medicine. Additionally, there are courses that prepare students for research in an interdisciplinary way.
The following topics are addressed in the program’s courses: Physics of Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Radiation, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, Radiological Protection, Magnetic Resonance, Ultrasound, Medical Image Processing, Anatomy, Physiology and Biophysics. Students will have the chance to do internships in healthcare institutions and health surveillance facilities.
The variety of job possibilities include teaching and research institutions, health and sanitary surveillance institutions, information technology companies, electromedical and measuring equipment, in areas such as people training, research, quality assurance programs, radiation dosimetry and radiological protection. There are also jobs for Physical Medicine in public companies.
Graduates can also pursue graduate degrees in the areas of Physics, Engineering and Medicine, among others. Bachelors of Physics are eligible to do research in medical physics, nanosciences, new materials, instrumentation, renewable energies and geophysics.
Medical physicists can serve as consultants in the purchase and sale of electromedical equipment and in the training of healthcare workers. There is a growing demand for physicists in industries, especially in the area of Metrology.
