Professor Fernando Lopes Pedone, from University of Lugano (USI), Switzerland, is one of the first visiting professors to come to PUCRS under the PUCRS-PrInt Program (Call 03/2019 – Visiting Professor in Brazil). Pedone teaches at the School of Computer Science of the Swiss institutions and will be working in the area of Knowledge extraction from Big Data , coordinated by Professor Dr Luiz Gustavo Leão Fernandes. This area is embraced by the major theme Technology and Biodiversity: Sustainability, Energy and the Environment.
A native of Rio Grande, Pedone has been living in Switzerland for 24 years. He is committed to designing, implementing and assessing reliable and scalable distributed systems. Pedone will be leaving Porto Alegre on Apr 12. His will be holding sessions with graduate students – Master’s and PhD level -, writing articles and delivering presentations in collaboration with the research group Dependable Distributed Computing, coordinated by Professor Dr Fernando Dotti, a permanent professors of the Graduate Program in Computer Science (PPGCC), of the School of Technology.
On Apr 11, he will be presenting the session Scalable Dependability: Whence, Wherefore, and Whither. The presentation will address the efforts towards extending state machine replication, a classic technique to high availability, to support both configurable fault tolerance and scalable performance. The event begins at 10 AM, in room 517, of Building 32, and is open to internal and external audiences. No early registration is required.
