Manuel Jesús Sabariego Gómez works at Universidade de Coimbra, in Portugal, and Universidad de Sevilla, in Spain

Visiting Professor Manuel Jesús Sabariego Gómez, from Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal, and Universidad de Sevilla, Spain, is at PUCRS under the Institutional Project of Internationalization (PUCRS-PrInt). The researcher has consistent research in the fields of human rights, violence and technopolitics. Sabariego participates in the cooperation project The Hidden Matrix of Violence in Modern Times: Crisis of Otherness, Morale and Ethics, linked to the priority theme The World in Motion: Individuals and Society , coordinated by Professor Ruth Gauer.
The expected results from the visit of the Portuguese professor include activities for graduate students and researchers, as well as aligning joint studies for future publications. A cooperation agreement between PUCRS and Universidad de Sevilla is also under discussion, aimed at increasing the academic exchange of professors and students and consolidating the joint supervision of master and doctoral researches at both institutions.
From October 23rd to 25th, the visiting professor will also participate in the 4th International Seminar on Public Policy, Intersectorality and Family: (un)expected inflections and potential resistances.

Sabariego had formerly visited PUCRS in 2017, when he participated in the International Congress of Criminal Sciences at the Institution. The visit enabled the participation of the research group led by professor Augusto Jobim do Amaral, from the School of Law, in the Technopolitics international research network. Since then, several international meetings and joint projects have been developed, promoting the internationalization of the School. In November this year, Amaral will participate in a working mission under PrInt at Universidad de Sevilla, continuing the work started during Sabariego’s visit to PUCRS.
On October 7, Sabariego gave the lecture Human Rights, Violence and Technopolitics in the Age of Social Media, in Building 11, room 1035. The researcher elaborated on the concept, which defines the appropriation of information technologies by social movements for political purposes and their impacts on the institutional sphere of technological transition. In addition to election campaigns and political agendas, the study also looked at theme as a communication strategy, proposing a new approach to research into social movements, violence and human rights.
