The laboratory tests lamp holders for the Edison E27 and E40 male screw base in line with ABNT NBR IEC 60238:2005 and G13 base for double base fluorescent tube lamps.

The standard applies to lamp holders/bases for use in the interior or exterior of buildings in both industrial and residential premises. The laboratory came about through the need for safety in domestic and private usage, including street lighting, on board ships, in vehicles or classified areas which present, for example, a risk of explosion.

In anticipation of mandatory certification, the laboratory was accredited in 2003 for testing lamp holders/bases under IEC 60238/02. After achieving accreditation, our greatest challenge was to win over the manufacturers so that, even when testing was not mandatory, they would test their products in line with the standard to compete with imported products that have already been certified.
