LABELO’s activities are divided into two major areas: calibration and testing. The field of calibration also provides substantial support to the measurement processes involved in tests required by technical standards.
Calibration
The calibrations carried out at LABELO aim to meet the needs of companies that are either seeking or already have ISO 9001 certification, performed by systems certification authority accredited by Cgcre.
The primary focus is on electrical quantities and their derivatives, fiving rise to the following laboratories:
High Frequency and Telecommunications Laboratory
Electricity Laboratory
Electro-acoustic Laboratory
Force, Torque and Hardness Laboratory
Photometry Laboratory
Time and Frequency Laboratory
Temperature and Relative Humidity
The calibration laboratories play an important role in disseminating the traceability of national standards since they provide the system with a multiplying factor, meaning that companies do not necessarily need to send their equipment exclusively to primary laboratories for calibration.
Within the classic structure of metrology, there are laboratory levels responsible for the traceability of different measurements. In Brazil, the role of primary laboratory is carried out by Inmetro, IRD and the National Observatory, which are responsible for maintaining the primary national standards.
Through its accredited calibration laboratories, Labelo functions as a secondary laboratory with direct traceability to primary standards. In this role, it is responsible for calibrating the measuring equipment of benchmark companies (those with an internal metrological structure), or instruments used to execute measurements and controls in the production process.
Tests
The field of testing is geared towards electrical products and materials. As such, specific types of tests are conducted as well as monitoring and special analyses required by product certification agencies or by clients. Testing comprises 6 major areas with 40 laboratories:
High Technology
High Voltage
Audio and Video
Plastic Chairs
Components
Dental, Medical and Hospital Consumables
Corrosion
Acoustic Tests
Environmental Testing
Chemical Testing
Home Appliances
Electromedical Testing
Information Technology Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment
Equipment for Classified Areas
Wire and Cables
Protection Index
Lighting
Lamps
Lamp Holders
Plugs, Sockets, Switches and Connectors
Polymers
Reactors
Cooling
Photoelectric Relays
Fuel Tanks
Telecommunications
Digital TV
Ceiling Fans
Testing operations are supported primarily by conformity assessment programs and the Inmetro Brazilian Labelling Program. There is also participation in testing for the certification of telecommunications products, managed by Anatel.
Conformity assessment programs involve close contact with product certification agencies accredited by Cgcre.
