The laboratory evaluates the safety of equipment that operates directly in the areas of processing information and interfaces. It focuses on computer equipment, particularly microcomputers, as well as their accessories and components, UPS, photocopiers, modems, telephones, banking terminals and switchboards. Testing is performed in line with IEC standard 60950-1.
Tests in this area began in 2000 to cater to clients seeking voluntary certification for their products as well as the needs created by the opening of the telecommunications market.
In around 2003, state and municipal government administration agencies in some regions included a requirement in public tenders for compliance with the IEC 60950-1 safety standard.
In 2010, demand for safety and power consumption tests increased as a result of Decree 7.174 of May 12, 2010, which stipulated that federal government entities and organizations must obtain certification for goods and services related to computers and automation.
