The laboratory aims to meet the demand for calibration of light meters, known as lux meters or photometers. All professionals involved in the field of occupational safety use a lux meter and at times are required to issue measurement reports or analyze the ergonomics in workplace environments. As such, they often have queries regarding the validity of measurement results, which can only be guaranteed through proper calibration.
The laboratory also caters to manufacturers of products used for street lighting, such as electronic and electromagnetic reactors and photoelectric relays, whose internal research, development and quality control labs contain lux meters that require periodic calibration.
Among the laboratory’s equipment is a photometric bench and top quality lamps. Traceability of this new lab is obtained directly from the INMETRO Optical laboratory and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Germany.
The photometry laboratory was created in early 2004 and in June 2006 became the first RBC lab to be accredited for lux meter calibration.
The photometry lab is accredited by Cgcre and qualified to calibrate the following instruments:
The laboratory is currently investing in future calibration of luminous flux meters, color temperature meters and filament lamps.
