The laboratory is one of the best in the country with regard to electrical quantities, measurement ranges, measurement uncertainty and level of automation, using the most modern calibration and measuring equipment available on the global market, as well as high qualified staff.
One of the highlights of the laboratory is its high level of automation, providing excellent competitiveness (deadline and price) to clients from all over the country. It currently has the highest level of automation among all CGCRE – accredited laboratories.
It is also important to underscore that it has one of the widest ranges of accredited services, including the possibility to carry out calibration at laboratory facilities and those of the client, anywhere in the country.
The Electricity Laboratory was the first of the LABELO labs, created in 1998 with funding from PADCT I. It caters to the entire country and was the first laboratory to be accredited by Cgcre. From its inception, the lab has stood out for its agility and ability to solve calibration problems in Brazilian industry, characteristics which are now extended to the field of hospital care.
The laboratory has the capability to calibrate the following electrical quantities, which can also be done on client premises:
LABELO’s Calibration Plans include verification in all ranges in which the instrument carries out measurements, within calibration limits. According to basic plans, six points are calibrated for each range of the instrument, distributed in percentages along the scale and comprising the calibration plan. The plan can be adapted according to the needs of the client, producing personalized calibration for points and/or ranges requested in line with the real needs established by the equipment users, with only a small variation in the final price.
It is important to note that in the case of multimeters, the basic quantities in this calibration plan are AC and DC Voltage, AC Current and Resistance. The remaining quantities measured by the multimeter can also be calibrated by LABELO; since they are not part of the basic plan their calibration should be requested separately after consulting the list of calibration services for this instrument.
LABELO is the first laboratory in the country capable of calibrating electromedical equipment and accredited by RBC/Cgcre.
Through the experience of staff at its PUCRS units, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at São Lucas Hospital and the LABELO calibration labs, the appropriate infrastructure was developed to calibrate a range of hospital equipment.
Calibration is carried out as an RBC-accredited service with traceability to several labs that form part of LABELO.
Considering that “Diagnostics can only be performed correctly when the information used is correct”, even when the measuring equipment has been tested for marketing purposes it is not exempt from usage control, or Metrology control.
Calibrating this type of equipment aims to ensure the quality and reliability of diagnoses and application of medical treatment, as well as reducing the risk to patients of using these instruments or procedures where equipment is operated by an electric signal.
It is important to underscore that operational irregularities in the systems and equipment used in this field can result in direct and immediate risks, such as:
Ventricular fibrillation by electric shock;
Thermal lesions (burns);
Respiratory system lesions;
Erroneous monitoring of physiological parameters;
Based on the current list of LABELO’s accredited services, calibration is also available for what is known as Electromedical equipment, used in hospital settings. Below is a list of some of the electromedical equipment that can be calibrated at LABELO’s electricity laboratory:
Defibrillator Analyzers
Analyzers / ECG Simulators / Patient Simulators;
Electrical Stimulation Equipment;
Analyzers of Electrical Scalpels or RF Wattmeters;
Electrical Safety Analyzers, among others.
