Project presentation:
Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) processes have established themselves as a promising approach to atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and geological storage, also known as negative emissions (NET) technologies. Within the scenarios of mitigating environmental impacts, the capture of CO2 directly from the air is considered a key technology to achieve the climate goals stipulated for the coming decades, compared to technologies such as photovoltaic solar energy, wind energy, advanced batteries and electrolysers (green hydrogen). However, to become relevant, CDR technologies must reach the capacity to remove gigatons of CO2 by mid-century (2050).
Started in 2022, the DACCS project is unprecedented in Brazil, and aims to study DAC technologies, evaluate integration strategies and optimize CO2 removal processes, and indicate favorable areas for the implementation of negative emissions (NET) in the country.
