Coal I
R&D Project – Geochemical and petrographic characterization of coals for carbon sequestration in the Sul Catarinense deposit, with a view to detailing them for the preparation of the first pilot project for carbon sequestration in coal in Brazil.

Period of execution

Project presentation:
Characterization of mineral coal from southern Santa Catarina in Brazil in order to evaluate its potential for CO2 sequestration and methane recovery resulting from the carbon storage process.
The verification of the ash content at low temperature, higher than the ash content found by the standardized method (775°C) and therefore, according to the correlation indicated by Parr;
The method proposed by the project proved to be efficient for the elemental carbon analysis of low rank coals; presented ranges of concentrations in which these contents are inserted;
The proposed calibration method based on the SARM20 South African coal standard proved to be suitable for elemental carbon analyzes for Brazilian coals.
