Partnership established in July for the exchange of practices and knowledge in effect now
Professors of the Graduate Program in Education and Philosophy, of the School of Humanities, have taught at the Instituto Superior Politécnico Sol Nascente in Huambo, in Angola. The partnership was established early in July. The professors involved will be sharing their practices and insights produced at PUCRS. The idea is to collaborate to the development of curricula of graduate programs at the Angolan institution.
Professor Dr Thadeu Weber, of the Graduate Program in Philosophy and the Graduate Program in Law, gave the opening class for the institute’s graduate programs and taught the course Ethics, Law and Politics. Weber was invited to help design the Master’s program the institution seeks to offer in Law and Political Philosophy. He has also received an invitation to join the faculty. “We began our discussions to offer the Master’s program but we still don’t know when the program will take off because it depends on the authorization from relevant Angolan authorities”, said he. The School of Humanities will be a direct partner. In Weber’s view, this is an effort to promote social relevance at the international level for the purposes of assessing Graduate Programs by Capes.
In addition to that, professor Dr Bettina Steren dos Santos, of the Graduate Program in Education, taught a course on Didactics to 80 professors of the Angolan institution. The mission discussed law and philosophy, too. “Getting to know a reality that is different from ours has been an excellent experience. Students were very thankful and collaborative. They have a lot to learn, especially in the area of teacher training and teaching practices”, said she. In October, other faculty members of the Philosophy and Education programs are expected to head to Angola to teach.
