notíciaThe Times Higher Education (THE) Golden Age Rankings 2018 shows PUCRS as the only institution from Rio Grande do Sul to be in a list of the best universities established between 1945 and 1967. PUCRS stood out in the categories Industry Income, Citations and International Outlook. This list includes institutions established after WW2, the “golden age” of higher education all over the world. This period saw a quick expansion of higher education institutions and a major increase in the investments in university research.

According to THE, the universities in the ranking form a unique group of higher education institutions aged 50 – 80. The ranking features 200 educational institutions from 44 countries. Japan is the country with most universities in the list: 28. It is followed by the UK and China. Brazil has 8 institutions in the list. PUCRS stays atop among private universities and 3rd overall.

The President of PUCRS, Br. Evilázio Teixeira, claims that “being in this ranking in the year of our 70th anniversary is quite symbolic and significant. PUCRS was established in a moment when the number of higher education institutions saw a major increase all over the planet, as society called for a new form of teaching and the expansion of the mission of the University. We have remained firm to our commitment to education, research and development ever since. These efforts are materialized in recognitions such as this as they corroborate the excellence of what we do at PUCRS”.

The ranking uses the same methodology that is used by World University Rankings, as it looks at the strengths of each university in relation to all of their activities: teaching, research, citations, knowledge transfer and international perspectives.
