Hector Morbidoni, from Universidad Nacional de Rosario, served as a Visiting Professor on PUCRS-PrInt
The professor of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Dr Hector Morbidoni, came to PUCRS in November on the Institutional Project of Internationalization (PUCRS-PrInt), under the project Advances in drug development, diagnosis and epidemiology of neglected diseases, in the priority area Health in Human Development. Morbidoni collaborates with the Center for Research on Molecular and Functional Biology of PUCRS, in the training of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. During his visit to PUCRS, he was in the company of School of Health and Life Sciences Professor Dr Cristiano Bizarro.
Morbidoni taught the course “Special Topics in Biosciences I”, in the Graduate Program in Cellular and Molecular Biology, with the theme “Antimicrobial Resistance Mechanisms”. This was the first time the course was offered. The professor delivered a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, focusing on new mechanisms of resistance, tolerance, persistence as well as new therapeutic targets and endolysins. The researcher also delivered a PPGBCM special seminar on “Bacteriophages and Endolysins: Novel ways to treat bacterial infections”. He is an expert in Mycobacterium tuberculosis fatty acid metabolism pathways.
The Argentine scholar also attended meetings with graduate students. In these sessions, they discussed experiments that have already been carried out and several others that were planned and will be carried out in the coming months. In the future, PUCRS graduate students are expected to go to Professor Morbidoni’s laboratory in Argentina. Other mobility actions between the two groups are now in place.
