Teacher gives opening class and teaches socioemotional skills
From Mar 16 – 20, the Graduate Program in Psychology will be opening its doors to Professor Christian Berger, from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC-Chile). The faculty will teach the opening class Construyendo comunidades prosociales y ciudadanía: Aportes desde la investigación en contextos educativos on Mar 16, at 10:30 AM, in Room 923 of Building 11. No early registration is required.
Berger works with child and adolescent development processes from the perspective of health promotion in Educational Psychology, including the development of socio-emotional competences and their relationship with specific social contexts, as well as the relationships between peers, with teachers and adults. Berger will be coming to PUCRS after receiving an invitation by School of Health and Life Sciences professor Dr Carolina Lisboa. He is expected to work on the research group into Interpersonal Relations and Violence.
In addition to the lecture, Berger will teach the course on Special Topics of the Graduate Program in Psychology, on Relaciones de pares de niños y adolescentes, bienestar y desarrollo socioemocional. The course will review different perspectives to analyze the relationships between peers from an evolutionary and ecological focus. He also co-advises doctoral student Daniele Lindern, who is working on her dissertation entitled Relationship between school environment and prejudice against sexual and gender diversity at school.
Dr Christian Berger holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois, USA. He serves as Deputy Director of Research and Graduate Studies at the School of Psychology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In his research, he studies individual development from a socio-emotional perspective, but he views that the development of individuals relates to other people and in specific social contexts.
