We are now in the middle of 2019. So far, we have celebrated many achievements over the course of this semester. We have enjoyed many remarkable moments with international students who chose PUCRS for its international experience. The research we have carried out has been widely recognized and the events we offered endorsed our commitment to education, research and innovation. INCOMING ACADEMIC MOBILITY

Canadian students take part in mission at PUCRS and Pró-Mata

11 students from Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) came to PUCRS earlier this month for a course on marine, fresh water and terrestrial ecosystems designed by the Canadian university.

International students take part in cultural activities at CTG Tiarayú

Incoming mobility programs joined a typical dinner at the Centro de Tradições Gaúchas (CTG) Tiarayú, in Porto Alegre. On May 30, 28 students from 9 countries had the chance to learn more about Rio Grande do Sul in a typical dance show.

OUTGOING ACADEMIC MOBILITY

Business School student represents PUCRS in Canadian university event

Business School student, Júlia Aita, presented her final undergraduate article in a conference at Concordia University of Edmonton International, as she was working on her academic mobility program in Canada. She ranked 4th with a paper on innovation in Brazilian agribusiness.

RESEARCH

Projects on biographic narratives bring PUCRS and Universität Göttingen together

Professor Dr Hermílio Santos now serves as a joint researcher in the international investigation Biographic paths of immigrants from Syria and West Africa in Brazil and in Germany – Processes of inclusion and participation in the context of illegal immigration, which is coordinated by Professor Gabriele Rosenthal, from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. The study was approved by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Canadian researcher develops study at IPR

A native of Canada, Daniel Praeg has conducted a number of investigations at institutions in Scotland, Ireland and Italy. He has been working at the Institute of Petroleum and Natural Resources of PUCRS since 2018. His collaborative project, SEAGAS, involves French laboratory Géoazur from Nice, and is being developed in support of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Global Fellowship.

PUCRS Professor internationally recognized for review on gender dysphoria study

Professor of the Graduate Programs in Psychology and in Social Sciences and coordinator of the Research Group in Prejudice, Vulnerability and Psychosocial Processes, Dr Angelo Brandelli Costa, gained international recognition with a publication in the US journal Plos One, from Public Library of Science.

Connecting Museums advances discussions on leadership, innovation and education

The partnership between the Science and Technology Museum (MCT), Newcastle University‘s Great North Museum: Hancock, and the University of Oxford‘s Museum of Natural History, gave birth to the international conference Connecting Museums, which is intended to discuss education, leadership and innovation in science museums located in universities

Newcastle University professor discusses internationalization of higher education

Newcastle University professor Dr Sue Robson delivered the workshop Internationalization at Home – I@H: Perspectives for Undergraduate Studies. Robson came to the University as a visiting professor under the Institutional Project of Internationalization (PUCRS-PrInt).

Humboldt Foundation conference discusses neurosciences and humanities

PUCRS opened its doors to Humboldt-Kolleg, a regional and interdisciplinary conference organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, from Germany. The theme was Neurosciences and Humanities: Is it possible to foster mutual learning?

University of Salford professor delivers lecture under PUCRS-PrInt

Dr Joe Taylor, professor of the University of Salford, UK, came to PUCRS as a visiting professor within the scope of the program PUCRS-PrInt (Call 03/2019 – Visiting Professor in Brazil). Some of the activities on his schedule at PUCRS included the lecture DNA metabarcoding in biodiversity and conservation studies for School of Sciences students.

RECOGNITION

PUCRS cited in British Council publication on internationalization

The British Council’s new publication, entitled Universities for the World: Strategies and advances to internationalization features cases on the internationalization of higher education in Brazil, including the good practices implemented by PUCRS, as one of the highlights.

PUCRS appears as best private university in Top of Mind critics’ choice

PUCRS is the #1 private university in Rio Grande do Sul according to Top of Mind 2019. The survey is promoted by Grupo Amanhã. The institution stayed atop for the fifth year in a row and, this year, it fared well on the internet, too.

Irmão José Otão Main Library

The Br. José Otão Main Library, regarded as the most modern library in South America, sits in an area larger than 1,000 m2. It is home to a variety of books, magazines, databases and all types of educational materials in all academic areas. It makes a meaningful contribution for personal, scientific, technical and professional development of students and community. Today, the archives have more than 1,5 million items available in six floors.
