Professor Laura Rovelli, Secretary of Research at the School of Humanities and Education Sciences at Universidad Nacional de la Plata (UNLP) was invited to come to PUCRS to take part in some academic activities for the School of Humanities. The Argentinean university has been partners with the Graduate Program in Education (PPGEdu) since 2008, when both institutions joined the Bi-national Program of the Centros Associados de Pós-graduação Brasil-Argentina (Associated Graduate Centers Brazil-Argentina) – CAPG-BA.

Since then, other initiatives in partnership have been put in practice as both institutions have been cooperating at the international level. Today, UNLP is one of the institutions that have been embraced by CAPES PrInt as a partner. Rovelli is part of the research team and coordinates UNLP’s actions in the project as well.

In her visit to PUCRS, Laura delivered the lecture Políticas de Posgrado y de C&T en la Argentina y en Brasil: Análise internacional comparado, as she addressed the recent university and scientific reforms in Brazil and Argentina. She talked about the expansion of the graduate programs in these countries, the advances and limitations of the doctoral-level training policies and their relevance and impact on academic careers at universities. Laura was welcomed at the Office for International Cooperation by the coordinator Sandra Mino, as she learned more about the University and its efforts of internationalization.

Dr Mónica de la Fare, a professor of PPGEdu, claims that today every effort is going to be made to advance mobility between these two universities through the CAPES PrInt. “We’ll also be working on a joint research project in order to create an Observatory of PhDs in Education and other areas in Humanities and Social Sciences in Latin America and how the graduates get into the job and market and academic life”, she adds.
