Christian Rode came to PUCRS in October under PUCRS-PrInt

Professor Dr Christian Rode from University of Bonn, in Germany, came to PUCRS in support of the Institutional Project of Internationalization (PUCRS-PrInt) in October. The researcher, who specializes in the history of philosophy, philosophy in the Middle Ages and modern philosophy, took part in a number of activities during his visit to the University. Among other things, he delivered lectures and joined meetings with students and faculty.
Christian Rode develops research on “social ontology” in medieval philosophy. This area embraces a metaphysical and linguistic analysis of non-individual entities and of relational and collective categories. He was then invited by School of Humanities professor Dr Roberto Pich to join the cooperation project Migrations: Historical and Conceptual Perspectives and Analysis of Contemporary Phenomena, which is coordinated by Professor Antonio De Ruggiero and is under the priority area World in Motion: Individuals and Society.
In his visit to PUCRS, Rode participated in the III Colloquium on Philosophy of Religion PUCRS and University of Bonn, on Oct 16. The event looked at the attitude towards others in theology and medieval philosophy. He also joined the 1st Migrations Research Conference: Historical-Conceptual Perspectives and Analysis of Contemporary Phenomena, on Oct 17, as he discussed migrations in the German context. On Oct 23, the professor gave the lectures Time, Modality and Anselm’s Argument and Self-Consciousness and Self-Cognition in Olivi.

Professor Christian Rode’s visit served to strengthen PUCRS’ bonds with the University of Bonn as international collaborators in specific projects, many of which under PUCRS-PrInt. Today two PhD students from PUCRS are doing a doctoral research internship at the University of Bonn. For 2020, new seminars on the philosophy of religion and otherness are on the schedule. Additionally, both institutions are planning to develop research on the legal and normative problems associated with immigration, both in the past and in the present. In addition, joint actions involving the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS) should advance specific studies on forced migration involving African-Brazilians and Amerindians in Brazil.
