Members of the Apple Developer Academy, located at PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park – Tecnopuc, became the first Brazilian team to make it to the finals of the Reply Creative Challenge. The creativity marathon brought together more than 1,000 teams from 70 countries proposing solutions in five categories. One of such groups includes Rovane Moura, a graduate of the School of Technology’s Computer Science program and member of the Apple Developer Academy. “We reached the top in the Service Design category, which included 89 projects. We moved through to the final stage of the event along with the winning teams from the other four categories. We were the first Brazilian group to make it to the finals of this event. In total, 1,093 teams participated in the marathon, with 522 projects ”, Rovane says.

The way Rovane sees it, the team intended to propose a solution that would assist customers of a German retail company for household and construction items. “The challenge was to change the mindset on the difficulty of do-it-yourself projects, and make profits in some way”, she comments.

The solution developed by the Tecnopuc-based team, called Metiisto (Esperanto for artisan), was a platform / social network / app for users to explore and find out about different projects, buy materials and equipment by project, get professional and community support, and share experiences / images / comments with other users.

In addition to Rovane, the Apple Developer Academy team includes Milena Pauli, Laura Pilz and Giovanna Tonello. In the finals, the group presented a live pitch, and finished the Reply Creative Challenge in third place.

Learning and experimentation

The School of Technology alumni points out that the University, Tecnopuc and the Apple Developer Academy together foster an environment for learning and growth. “We have received tremendous support to develop projects and explore different career possibilities. It is a great experience of mutual learning, as we can exchange knowledge and experimentation”, Rovane points out.
