As the main event of creative economy and innovation in the world, the South by Southwest (SXSW) was held for the first time in 1987 and, since then, has influenced the future of business, professions and education. In addition to the participation of PUCRS’s Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc), which is already tradition in the event held annually in Austin, capital of Texas, this year the University’s Senior Vice President, Br. Manuir Mentges, also integrates the mission of the Brazilian Association of Community Institutions of Higher Education (ABRUC).
In addition to participating in the conference, those who took part in the mission will visit local universities to get to know practices and experiences in different areas, which will allow for signing actions of international cooperation. Facing what is in the horizon for education and higher education requires determining intentions for the future while doing the best in the present as well. In the 2023 edition, the SXSW EDU Festival, in which the senior vice president will participate more actively, will have around 400 plenaries and sessions on various themes, planned by and for educators, entrepreneurs, and people who act with innovation in the field of education all over the world.

This connects us even more with universities around the world and inspires us to take new actions which may contribute with our new cycle of Strategic Planning, because we aspire to be a new university for a new society, recognized for its impact and relevance,” stresses Br. Manuir Mentges.
Education – learning in a broader way – is a human experience driven by the community in which you are inserted and by all the parts involved in the development of a person. It has the power to shape future generations and is vital for society as a whole. With this vision, the schedule of the SXSW EDU gathers a community that is anxious to build understanding and to search for solutions for the next generation of students, and the themes this year are: audacity/courage, imagination, convergence, and evolution.
