Senior Vice President Jaderson Costa da Costa presented PUCRS' volunteering actions in Rome
At the Refugees and Migrants in a Globalized World Responsibility and Responses of Universities, PUCRS’ Senior Vice President, Jaderson Costa da Costa, introduced the institution’s volunteering actions in education. The event, which was sponsored by the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) occurred from Nov 1 – 4. This year, it took place at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana, in Rome, Italy. “The idea was to show how the University could contribute to improving the lives of refugees and migrants in Brazil, in a concrete way by employing voluntary actions”, says Dr Costa.
During his lecture, Costa da Costa reflected upon the worrisome plight of refugees and immigrants in Brazil. In order to tackle this problem, some of PUCRS’ actions were presented, such as academic awareness initiatives and food and clothes campaigns for immigrants.
Dr Costa also showed a video of the first edition of the program Portuguese for Immigrants and Refugees. Overall, 30 Haitians who live in Porto Alegre completed the program. The program was offered through a partnership between PUCRS and Santa
