Overall, 81 students joined academic mobility program in the second semester of 2018
Students from different undergraduate programs of PUCRS are getting ready to embark upon an academic mobility program overseas. The 81 students will be representing the Institution in 12 countries and 39 universities in the coming semester: Germany, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Spain, USA, France, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, UK and Sweden.
Journalism major Eduarda Pereira is all packed up to go to Northeastern Illinois University, USA. “I’ve always wanted to do an exchange because I believe this is such an important experience, both personally and professionally. To understand the world and develop our own understanding of other countries is essential, especially for my future profession. And this is exactly what I expect: I want to meet people, learn different stories and cultures and, most importantly, seek professional growth by learning new skills and applying those that I have learned at Famecos in different contexts”, says she.
In preparation for this new moment in life, the students joined a pre-departure session, sponsored by the Office for International Cooperation’s, Academic Mobility team, on Jul 4. They received orientation about documents, course information and credit transfer. School of Health Sciences psychologist Kátia Rocha, gave them tips on how to prepare for their academic adventure. “Although the digital world makes things easier as it makes it possible for you to come in contact with your family members and friends, my suggestion is: open up for this experience”, commented she. In Kátia’s view, it is important to permit yourself to enjoy the country of destination and, hence, open up to new cultures, traditions and learning experiences.
Students are about to embark upon this unique opportunity as ambassadors of the University abroad. “Enjoy this moment and this opportunity in order to grow both personally and professionally”, says Otávio Porcher, who is in charge of outgoing mobility. “The academic mobility program at PUCRS has been a great opportunity, since it made things a lot easier. The Academic Mobility team was very helpful too, since it provided me with assistance all along”, says Eduarda.
The Academic Mobility program will open the doors of international universities, and also of institutions from other parts of Brazil, for PUCRS students. This is the case of Journalism major Samira Rodrigues, who will be going to the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (UNICAP).
