The University was home to the Seminar Innovation, Science and Technology: National and International Innovation Strategies  from Jun 12 – 13. The event was mostly intended to present the findings of the programs developed by the State Office of Economic Development, Science and Technology (SDECT), the seminar’s sponsor and organizer, in partnership with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank / Bird). The opening ceremony featured the governor of the State of Rio Grande do Sul José Ivo Sartori, the Senior Vice President Jaderson Costa da Costa and the Senior Specialist for Private Sector Development of Bird, Cristian Quijada. The activity received the support from PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc).

At the event, PUCRS’ acting President claimed that disruptive transformational actions in strategic areas must rely on public policies. He commended the seminar’s theme, which is to assess the results of investments that had been made, the impact of initiatives, the perception of the models applied in other countries, especially the emerging ones. “In a moment in which we are short of resources, it is important to invest in correct strategies that will produce the expected results. PUCRS plays a very important role in initiatives such as this, which reinforce its position, as it is guided in the pillars of innovation and development. This makes the institution a mediator as it articulates strategic alliances that promote local and global development”, said Dr Costa da Costa.

Relying on funds from Bird, SDECT provides support to 18 Local Production Arrangements, 11 Centers for Productive Extension, in 16 projects that are anchored in Parks, 117 projects in Technology Complexes and 34 projects in Business Incubators. In seven years, the Government of Rio Grande do Sul has received more than R$ 100 million from the World Bank for such programs.

At PUCRS, the Inovapucrs Condominium, at Tecnopuc, opened in 2016 is one of the projects that received funds from Bird/SDECT. Dr Rafael Prikladnicki, director of Tecnopuc, claims that “several projects involving Tecnopuc have been developed , especially for the development of startups, and the Audiovisual Technological Center of RS – Tecna, as well as laboratories that opened their doors to the entire academic and the Park’s community”, says he.
