8th edition of QS World University Rankings by Subject features more than 1000 universities
PUCRS has some of the best Medicine and Computer Science programs on the globe. The recognition was featured in the 8th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published on Wednesday (Feb 28) by QS Quacquarelli Symonds higher education specialists.
This year’s publication includes 1,100 universities, from 151 countries, 48 programs and five academic areas, thus making the QS Subject University Rankings 2018 the most comprehensive of its type. The universities are evaluated according to six metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
“Although this publication very rewarding for the School of Medicine, it is also challenging for faculty, students and staff as we have to be working together to get better and better”, comments the Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr Jefferson Braga Silva. The Dean of the School of Technology, Dr Sandra Einloft, claims that the Computer Science program being featured in the publication is the fruit of a collective effort aimed at keeping the curriculum of the program in line with other national and international curricula, with a qualified faculty and strong encouragement to research and industry. “The QS University ranking shows that our actions are coherent and in line with the needs of society”, says she.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject, which has been published every year since 2011, is intended to recognize the top universities all over the world in a large number of academic areas and also to help prospective students to spot the most important universities in the areas chosen. Applying for School of Medicine at PUCRS
International students interested in applying for the Medicine program at PUCRS should contact their home universities’ International Office for mobility programs. Home universities will select applicants according to the number of seats offered by PUCRS.
In addition to academic mobility programs, international students are also eligible for internships at PUCRS. The São Lucas Hospital (HSL) offers different opportunities in several areas. PUCRS’ Medicine program is anchored in the values and principal of technical competence, ethical and social commitment and scientific and humanistic development. Students will have the chance to take a variety of flexible courses, have practicum work in specialized laboratories, and also work with patients at public health stations, at São Lucas Hospital, at the Institute of Biomedical Research (IPB) and at the Brain Institute (BraIns).

International students interested in applying for the Computer Science program at PUCRS should contact their home universities for mobility programs. Each university will be in charge of selecting their students for the Academic Mobility program at PUCRS according to the number of seats available for each program. The curriculum of the Computer Science program relies on a solid foundation for the fundamentals of computing as it focuses on computer modeling and algorithm development.
