Br. Evilázio Teixeira takes office as the new President and Dr. Jaderson Costa da Costa as new Senior Vice President
After 12 years serving as President, Br. Joaquim Clotet ends his term. Current Senior Vice President, Br. Evilázio Francisco Borges Teixeira, takes office as President, and Dr. Jaderson Costa da Costa, Director of the PUCRS’ Brain Institute of Rio Grande do Sul (BraIns), as Senior Vice President.
Both were appointed by Br. Inácio Etges, President of the Rede Marista Supporters, and nominated by Dom Jaime Spengler, Metropolitan Archbishop of Porto Alegre, who is also the Chancellor of the University. Similarly, the other members of the Higher Administration were also sworn in: The deans and associated deans of the new Schools of Law, Medicine and Business; Dean and associated deans of the School of Humanities; Directors of Faculties, Institutes and Supplementary Units.
Prof. Dr. Evilázio Teixeira has been a Marist Brother since 1990 and is a Professor of Theology and Philosophy. In addition to having a Law School degree from PUCRS, he has a Master’s degree and a Doctoral Degree in Systematic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome) and a Master’s degree and a Doctoral degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum (Rome). A specialist in university management, he has served as Senior Vice President for 12 years (2005-2016), he undertook courses and an internship at the University of Ottawa, Canada (2016). He completed an MBA in University Administration at the Institute of University Administration and Leadership. Additionally, he took part in several educational missions promoted by the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities and the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations. Director of the Pastoral and Solidarity Center He has been a Provincial Councilor and Administrative Councilor of Rede Marista Supporters.
Prof. Dr. Jaderson Costa da Costa holds a degree in Medicine from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and is a Specialist in Neurology. He has Master’s degree in Biological Sciences: one in Physiology, and another in Neurosciences, and a Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences (Physiology). As well as that, he has completed a Research Fellowship in Neurology (Clinical Neurophysiology) at Harvard Medical School. He is a Professor of Neurology at the School of Medicine of PUCRS, Associate Professor of the University of Miami under the Latin America Training Program, Advising Professor of the Graduate Program in Medicine and Health Sciences and of the Program of Pediatrics and Children’s Health of PUCRS, as well as the Director of the Brain Institute of Rio Grande do Sul (BraIns).
Prof. Dr. Joaquim Clotet’s successful 12-year term as a President of the University has been recognized for his dedication to keeping PUCRS among the most renowned educational institutions in our country. During his term, the University has seen an exponential growth in terms of research, innovation, entrepreneurship and internationalization. He has been known for the efforts he made concerning the integration between classroom teaching, research and extension, which has consolidated the Institution as a reference in Higher Education both regionally, nationally and internationally.
