Funds to be used in research and graduate programs
The preliminary results of the Programa Institucional de Internacionalização – Capes/PrInt (Institutional Program of Internationalization) were published on Aug 20 by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior – Capes (Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education). PUCRS was one of the 25 higher education institutions (HEIs) that were awarded the grant. It is worth mentioning that out of that total, 20 are public and 5 are private institutions. The resources for the year 2018 will be used in projects that will begin in November and are expected to be in effect for 4 years. Starting in 2019, Capes plans to invest R$ 300,000.000,00 in the program every year.
This was made possible through the joint effort of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies and the Office for International Cooperation, who had been working on the project since 2017. Dr Carla Bonan, the institution’s Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies claims that “being awarded this grant is such an important step forward for the internationalization of PUCRS, as the institution can now work on priority issues in research and graduate studies and consolidate international strategic partnerships”.
About Capes/PrInt
Capes/PrInt has been designed to develop and implement the internationalization of the specific academic areas chosen by the institutions in an effort to foster the development of international research networks. With that in mind, Capes intends to reinforce the networks of support to internationalization in graduate programs. This will consequently lead to the improvement of the quality of academic production in this field of education. The program also includes the mobility of faculty and students to foster an international environment in participating institutions.
