President in Spain to discuss the future of higher education in the world
The President of PUCRS, Br. Dr Evilázio Teixeira, joined the 4th International Rector’s Meeting Universia 2018 – University, Society and Future. The event occurred from May 21 – 22, at the University of Salamanca, in Spain and featured more than 500 presidents of universities and academic representatives of 26 countries.
The meeting coincides with the celebration of the 800th Anniversary of the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest ones in Europe. The university is located in a city in Northwestern Spain, which has become a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) and which is also the European Capital of Culture.
This meeting focused on three strategic areas: Training and learning in a digital world; Research at the university: a paradigm to be revisited? and Contributions for social and territorial development. The discussions will culminate in the Carta de Salamanca, a document containing the main conclusions and proposals for the construction of a University of the future. The event will be a follow up to the meetings that occurred in Rio de Janeiro (2014), Guadalajara (Mexico, 2010) and Sevilla (Spain, 2005) and is supported by Banco Santander.
