University featured in top 20 of best Latin American institutions in Times Higher Education ranking
For another consecutive year, PUCRS has made it to the list of the 20th best universities in Latin America, in the Times Higher Education (THE) Latin America 2020, list, published on Tuesday, Jul 7. The University appears as the best private institution in the south of Brazil and ranks second in a list that includes all private universities in Brazil.
In the new edition of the THE – considered one of the most important indicators of higher education in the world – PUCRS stands out especially in terms of citations, research, teaching and international outlook, ranking second among other Brazilian private institutions in these items. The position of the institution translates the continuous work that has been developed in these areas and reinforces the institution’s commitment to the development of scholarship and international cooperation.

In this year’s survey, 166 institutions from 13 countries have made it to the list. Brazil appears as the country with the largest number of institutions, with a total of 61 universities. The ranking is based on five main indicators: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and knowledge transfer to industry. Institutions receive a score for each of these criteria, which have different weights for the final grade.
