Teia Labs to develop systems under the project led by Shell
Rodrigo Barros, Christian Quevedo, Jônatas Wehrmann and Douglas Souza are among the winners of the Edital de Inovação (innovation program) by Shell. The partners and PUCRS’ Alumni competed against 97 other projects from all over the country. This has earned Teia Labs, the first Artificial Intelligence company of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, an amount of BRL 830,000 to develop a computer platform for real-time data analysis that is capable of spotting faults automatically in oil and gas exploration systems in deep waters.
Users of the platform will be able to use structured data that are employed in the exploration processes of Shell as well as non structured data, such as images acquired by underwater robots and the texts that have been typed all along. The use of this platform would bring about important economic gains as it would, for instance, optimize the cleaning of equipment.
Headquartered at Tecnopuc and specialized in the development of solutions and machine learning for smart cities, Teia Lab is one of the three companies that have been selected for the project. This is the second time this one-year old company wins a public bid for innovation projects. In 2017, it was awarded the amount of BRL 250,000 for the Samsung Acceleration Program, in partnership with the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Ventures (Anprotec).Barros also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Technology, whereas Souza and Wehrmann are working on their Master’s and PhD, respectively.
