Program features PUCRS, Universidad de Rosário and University of Texas representatives
Professor Dr Eliana Ortiz Castill, from Universidad de Rosário, Colombia, and professors Dr Patricia Somers, Dr Rebecca Gavillet and Dr Jennifer Zamora, from University of Texas (UTexas), USA, came to PUCRS earlier in June to join the seminar Topics in Higher Education: Brazil, Colombia and USA dialogs. The program is sponsored by the Fulbright Commission and is intended to foster discussions on higher education in each of these three countries.
They were welcomed at the Office for International Cooperation by the Dean of International Cooperation, Dr Heloísa Orsi Koch Delgado, and by the Administrative Coordinator, Mrs Sandra Mino. They had the chance to learn more about the PUCRS 360º transformation movement and discuss education issues at the institution and in Brazil.
At the meeting, Dr Eliana Ortiz Castill, who addressed the survival of higher education in Colombia, focused on the importance of a proper approach in presenting opportunities to keep students motivated. “We are also employing new strategies for students to ‘learn to learn’ and thus, we can keep them in the university”, said she.
Dr Marilia Morosini, who coordinates the project with Professor Dr Pricila Kohls dos Santos, claims that the discussions during the meetings served to advance internationalization at the University, as comprehensive and relevant topics for the socioeducational contexts have been addressed. “The event epitomizes the consolidation of research networks involving Colombia and the USA, as it seeks to produce fresher insights for the continuity and quality of education at PUCRS”, comments she.
The last meeting is scheduled for Jun 19, at 4:30 PM, in room 504, Building 40. Applicants can sign up at no charge by sending an email to [email protected].
