Rafael Garibotti is on sabbatical until May 2020 through PUCRS-PrInt
Rafael Garibotti, a professor at PUCRS Polytechnic School and Graduate Studies Program in Electrical Engineering, is working as a visiting professor at Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), France, through PUCRS Institutional Project of Internationalization (PUCRS-PrInt). The professor is a member of a cooperation project titled Technological Advances for the Development of an Interconnected World, coordinated by Professor Fabian Vargas and linked to the priority theme Technology and Biodiversity: Sustainability, Energy and Environment.
The purpose of his research in France, more precisely at the TIMA Laboratory, is to explore the reliability of a multiprocessor platform based on commercial ARM processors through radiation tests. “The idea is to have a multi-purpose reference platform that can be widely used in real issues of embedded systems. For example, this platform will be able to reproduce the ARM big.LITTLE architecture present in modern cell phones, giving us the opportunity to research complex fault tolerance problems that currently exist,” says the professor.
Garibotti departed in December and will be in France until the end of May 2020. In addition to the radiation tests, joint articles are also to be produced. “We must also make a medium- to long-term cooperation plan to continue exploring the reliability of the multi-processor platform,” Rafael adds.
The partnership between professors of PUCRS Polytechnic School and the Université Grenoble Alpes has been in place for more than two decades. Several PUCRS professors completed their doctorates at UGA, and they have kept in touch with French researchers and enabled international cooperation in several joint projects. Professor Laurent Fesquet will visit PUCRS in 2020.
