Professor Rui Dang from  St. Paul The Apostle University of Information Science and Technology, Northern Macedonia, was at PUCRS as a visiting professor through the  PUCRS-PrInt  Project. The researcher’s period at the University marked the beginning of a partnership in research, further expanding PUCRS international connections and reinforcing the institution’s commitment to internationalization.

The researcher’s collaboration focuses on the field of Business Administration, especially on city planning. Dang was linked to the priority theme World in Motion: Individuals and Society and contributed to a cooperation project called Macro and Microeconomic Aspects Associated with Economic, Social, Human and Environmental Development, coordinated by PUCRS School of Business Professor Edimara Luciano.

Impact of neighborhood on individual opportunities

In addition to meetings with PUCRS professors and students, Rui Dang delivered the conference Do welfare dependent neighbors matter for individual welfare dependency? at the School of Business. The researcher presented data on how the neighborhood where a child is raised can influence their individual success and opportunities. “Children who move to areas with low poverty rates while young do much better as adults,” he said.

In addition, the researcher called attention to the importance of using big data in solving social and economic problems, considering an opportunity in the development of smart cities.
