The Consul General of Italy for Porto Alegre, Roberto Bortot, came to PUCRS on Oct 16, in the presence of the Vice Consul Maria Rosaria Valeri and visiting professor from Università del Molise (UNIMOL) Alberto Barausse. Visitors were welcomed at the Great Hall by the President Br. Dr Evilázio Teixeira, who commended the cooperation activities involving Brazil and Italy at PUCRS. There are currently 19 partnerships with Italian institutions fostering research and academic mobility of students and faculty.

A Double Degree Program in Law with Università degli Studi de Parma, which began in 2016, is one of the efforts resulting from these partnerships. Brazilian and Italian students who apply for it will spend a year in Italy or Brazil and, at the end of their program, will be entitled to two diplomas. The President also highlighted the Programa Institucional de Internacionalização (Institutional Program of Internationalizatio) – Capes/PrInt, a federal grant that PUCRS has recently been awarded, which must strengthen the university’s efforts of internationalization and consequently, bring the institution a bit closer to Italy.

Bortot was especially interested in joint actions involving the promotion of culture, an area that is gaining momentum at the consulate in Porto Alegre. Br Evilázio Teixeira made mention of the Institute of Culture of PUCRS as a reference for joint activities.
