Students from 9 countries join the university’s student body in undergraduate programs
Through academic mobility agreements, established by the Office for International Cooperation, students from eight countries arrive to carry out part of their undergraduate studies at PUCRS during this new semester. South Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico and Colombia are the countries or origin of the students. In addition, three students from Angola are going to fully complete their undergraduate studies here.
For their arrival, an orientation seminar was organized, where they could learn about all of the possibilities offered by PUCRS. In this opportunity, the students were introduced to the members of this edition of the University Buddy program, which involves PUCRS students who act like local partners, contributing to the process of socio-cultural adaptation and academic integration. The event lasted for 3 days and, in addition to exploring the university, they were also able to get in touch with the local culture, taking a city tour around Porto Alegre, becoming familiar with the city’s main historical points and touristic attractions. During their stay in Brazil, the students will be able to carry out Undergraduate Research, participate in volunteering activities organized by the Office of the Vice President for Institutional Identity, have Portuguese lessons, as well as being in touch with world-renowned professors and researchers. These practices make PUCRS’s academic environment a plural and diverse space, developing new knowledge through collectivity, creating a global community.
For the executive coordinator of the Office for International Cooperation, Carla Bonan, these are initiatives that promote a significant internationalization experience in PUCRS’s university environment. “Through academic mobility agreements, we provide unique opportunities for students from various countries to enrich their studies, all the while contributing to the diversity and cultural exchange in our campus, reinforcing PUCRS’s commitment to the development of a global community,” says the professor.
Until 03/18, applications are open to study abroad still in 2024. In the academic mobility program, PUCRS students from all on-campus undergraduate programs may choose between the more than 40 universities available to study in during one semester, with the possibility of extending this time for the same period, and the credits taken abroad are also valid at PUCRS.
