Center of German and European Studies has been a topic of discussion
The German Consul for Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, Stefan Traumann, came to PUCRS on Monday, January 23, to visit the President, Br. Evilázio Teixeira. Traumann, representing the German government, complimented the new President and restated his country’s interest and availability to develop partnerships in education and research with PUCRS. The Vice President, Jaderson Costa da Costa, the Dean of Science, Technology and Innovation, Jorge Audy, the Dean of the School of Humanities , Draiton Gonzaga de Souza, and the director of the Institute for the Environment , Betina Blochtein attended the meeting, too.
The Center for German and European Studies (Ceae), which was announced in late 2016 and has been conceived from a partnership between PUCRS and UFRGS, with the support of German Academic Exchange Service (Daad), was one of the topics addressed in the meeting. Souza mentioned that the State’s Secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology, Fábio de Oliveira Branco, and the presidents of both universities will be meeting on Wednesday, January 25, to discuss the implementation of the new center, which will be located at PUCRS and is expected to open its doors in April. The Center of German and European Studies is intended to offer a new generation of Brazilian students, researchers and scholars interdisciplinary and practice-oriented insights into contemporary German and European issues. Three key phenomena will be addressed: globalization, sustainable development and cultural diversity, and will introduce graduate programs on these areas, as well as a specialization program in the area of Law.
Another topic discussed was the 8th Brazil-German Symposium on Sustainable Development, from October 2-7, organized by the Institute for the Environment, to be held at PUCRS. The event will address issues such as water and oceans, public security, food and agricultural security, bioeconomics, biodiversity, sustainable mining, renewable energies, development of green infrastructures in urban areas, climate changes, social and environmental responsibility, ethics and environmental law, binational programs and cooperations.
