Continuing the electric mobility reinforcement actions in Rio Grande do Sul and in the country, PUCRS has signed a contract with one of the biggest manufacturers of charging stations for electric vehicles. The South Korean company Chaevi chose PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc) for the expansion of its activities in the Brazilian market. On that occasion, the company also installed two charging stations on campus.

According to the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE), from January to October 2022, 114 different models of electrified light vehicles (hybrids and plug-in electrics) got their license plates in Brazil. With the electric mobility department constantly growing, different actions are being promoted by PUCRS in order to actively be a part of this scenario of development: from connections with national and international innovation ecosystems, to the promotion of research and mobilization in universities and the creation of E-mobility, a laboratory for battery safety and performance testing which is being established on campus. On November 30th, a meeting took place on campus to discuss the initial public policies for electric cars in Rio Grande do Sul, with the presence of State representatives, companies, universities and specialists in the field.

Chaevi’s operation at PUCRS is an initiative by Labelo and Plug Future Mobility — a Tecnopuc hub with the purpose of encouraging the alliance between different society actors who strive to find solutions, services and products for new mobility models. The University believes the qualities of an environment of professional development, research, innovation and connection is perfect for the materialization of actions in this field. At the moment, Chaevi will be present at the Technology Park in softlanding mode, in which the company studies the Brazilian market and establishes relationships with new partners and clients in Brazil.

Present at the act for the signing of the term of commitment with Chaevi were the municipal secretary for innovations, Luís Carlos Pinto; PUCRS’s managing director of Quality of Services and Operations, Milton Stella; Tecnopuc’s manager of Prospection and Negotiation, Daniela Eckert; Plug Future Mobility Hub’s professor and coordinator, Eduardo Pellanda; Chaevi’s managers — of external sales, Hynsam Cho, and of strategy, Taewoong Na —; PCN’s executive director, Kim Rieffel; and PCN Latin America’s manager of institutional relations and R&D, André da Rosa.
