Thiago Revillion Dinato Doctoral student from PUCRS’ Graduate Program in Dentistry, Thiago Revillion Dinato, won an international award at the Biennial Meeting of the International College of Prosthodontics, in Santiago, Chile. Dinato presented the poster “Marginal Bone Loss in Implants Placed in the Maxillary Sinus Grafted with Anorganic Bovine Bone”.

He discussed a topic which is still largely unexplored, among several other papers from all over the world that were presented there. “Research has shown that hydroxylapatite implants have a success rate of 98.2%, and that the bone loss around successful implants is lower in the absence of mucous membrane flap after surgery”, comments Dinato’s advisor, Dr Márcio Lima Grossi.

The study was conducted in support of Dinato’s Master’s thesis, at PUCRS, and concerns patients who received tooth implants in areas where bone grafts had been previously recommended. “The conduction of this clinical research made it possible for us to assess and compare bone loss around these implants”, explains Dinato. In his view, winning this award translates as the recognition for his high-quality and relevant research at the international level. “I am very honored and encouraged to go on pursuing research in similar areas.”

Dinato’s concentration area is Dental Prosthetics. The project’s co-authors are Professor Eduardo Rolim Teixeira and graduate student Fábio Sá Carneiro Sczepanik; José Cícero Dinato, from Clínica Dinato; and Sérgio Gehrke, from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria.
