Deadline for application for graduate students from outside Brazil ends on Jul 29
Registrations are now open for the CDEA – Center for European and German Studies’ international program Migration in a Global World: Challenges in Germany, Brazil and in the USA, offered in partnership with the Institute of European Studies/Center for German and European Studies (IES/CGES), of the University of California, Berkeley. The course will run from Sept 30 to Oct 7, in the morning and afternoon and will be delivered in English.
The program has been conceived for Master’s and PhD students at the Centers of German and European Studies from all over the world. This will be its first edition in Porto Alegre. It is jointly organized by PUCRS and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). 12 seats are being offered for graduate students from Brazil. The deadline for registration for these students ends on Aug 19. Additionally, 12 seats are being offered for graduate students from overseas and the deadline for registration ends on Jul 29. Admission criteria: Applicants must send a letter of motivation, a short biography, a copy of the passport, a certificate of enrollment, a letter of recommendation from a faculty of their program and the summary of an article to be written during the course (maximum 300 words in length) to [email protected].
The program will include lectures, discussion sessions and workshops on migration. The interdisciplinary event will focus on the challenges of migration in a such global world (work, market, culture and integration). The main goal is to look at national and international regulations and make suggestions on how to best understand the several perspectives of migration (that is, historical, cultural, linguistic, legal, political and ethical). In addition to the academic discussions, the conference will give new DAAD researchers from all over the world the chance to develop their network of contacts.
