Directors and executives hold meeting to discuss plans
The Center for European and German Studies (CDEA), headquartered at PUCRS and UFRGS, is about to celebrate its first anniversary in April and, because of that, all its activities for 2018 have just been presented. The Advisory Board (Beirat), comprising the CDEA’s directors, Dr Claudia Lima Marques and Dr Draiton de Souza, the President of PUCRS Br. Evilázio Teixeira, the President and Vice President of UFRGS, Dr Rui Oppermann and Dr Jane Tutikian, the Consul General of Germany, Mr Stefan Traumann and the director of the German Academic Exchange Service in Brazil (DAAD), Mrs Martina Schulze, joined forces on Mar 14. The meeting served to present the results achieved in 2017 and to put up the CDEA’s Statute as well as to define the central theme of this year: the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, by the UN, in 1948.
The program for 2018 includes events featuring international researchers in Porto Alegre, especially in the second semester. The Center is committed to promoting exchanges for the professors and graduate students from the two partner universities to other 20 interdisciplinary Centers of European and German Studies all over the world.
Many actions marked the year 2017: Brazilian professors visited the CDEA in Israel and in the USA, alumni meetings were held and events in celebration of the 500 years of the Reformation, such as the International Symposium of Reform and Modernity, took place more towards the end of the year. Additionally, German student Lea Fischer, was warmly welcomed at PUCRS. A major in Economics at University of Bremen (Germany), Fischer will be doing a one-year internship at PUCRS’ Business School.
CDEA is a scientific center of education, research and information, sponsored by DAAD, with funds from the Ministry of External Relations of Germany, headquartered at PUCRS and UFRGS. This 5-year project is intended to produce the new generation of Brazilian scientists and researchers of interdisciplinary studies in contemporary topics involving Europe and Germany in issues of interest to Brazil and Latin America.
