Country awarded financial aid for 10 PhD students in 2018
Representatives of the Embassy of Australia and Rede PUCBR attended a symposium to discuss the results of the Programa Austrália – Americas PhD Research Internship, on Dec 5, at PUCRS. The initiative awarded Rede PUCBR students two-month research grants at Australian universities. The network comprises the following institutions: PUCRS, PUCPR, PUC Campinas, PUC Goiás, PUC-Rio and PUC Minas.
The mobility program was coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Training of Australia and by the Australian Board for International Education, and funded by the project Australian International Education: Enabling Growth and Innovation. In the 2018 edition, 10 PhD students from PUCs were awarded partial grants.
At the symposium, PUCRS was represented by researchers Carla Camargo Cassol da Silva (Graduate Program in Education), Gisele Jung Franciscatto (Graduate Program in Dentistry), Marilisa Baldissera (Graduate Program in pediatrics and Children’s Health ), Ramão Tiburski and Roben Castagna Lunardi (both Graduate Program in Computer Science). The students joined the program at Curtin University, University of Adelaide, University of Queensland, Deakin University and University of New South Wales, respectively.
Mathew Johnston, counsellor of the Embassy of Australia, celebrated the opportunity to strengthen the ties of academic and scientific cooperation between Brazil and Australia and stressed the need to hear students’ experiences. “We’re very happy about the networking activities and the construction of a high-quality alumni network”, added he.
New projects
Dr Marcelo Mira, Director of Internationalization at PUCPR and Director of Rede PUCBR, addressed the importance and relevance of getting all PUCs connected, in an effort to strengthen the brand and earn them a position of relevance at the international level. Mira also spoke about the Rede PUCBR working closely with the Embassy of Australia has produced the first cooperation project.
The event made it possible for the network representatives and Australian authorities to discuss possible joint actions in the future as the initial talks for the 2019 edition of the program have begun. New grants are to be awarded in the next year.
About Rede PUCBR
Joint actions between the six Pontifical Catholic Universities of Brazil, in the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul gave birth, in 2017, to Rede PUCBR. It is intended to strengthen the internationalization actions through the mobility of students and faculty, as well as cooperation agreements.
