Alec Webb was welcomed by the Office for International Cooperation to establish mobility and research opportunities with the University’s professors
Last Thursday (20), Australia’s Regional University Network (RUN) Executive Director, Alec Webb, visited PUCRS to explore partnership and collaboration opportunities. RUN is a collaborative network of seven Australian universities. On this opportunity, the visitor met with professors from the University to discuss possible joint research projects, grant opportunities, cotutelle programs or the sharing of the best practices in specific regional issues.
Webb was welcomed by the Office for International Cooperation, where he met with professor and executive coordinator Carla Bonan, coordinator of the Center for Brazil-Australia Studies Stefania Ordovas de Almeida, internationalization coordinator of graduate programs Lilian Hübner, professor Ely Jose de Mattos and professor Edimara Luciano, to discuss areas of mutual interest. In addition, RUN’s executive director showed interest in strengthening academic mobility between both countries through funding by the Australian or Brazilian government.
After the initial meeting, he is expected to return in the second semester with a committee of professors from the universities which make up the RUN, to further the discussions. The institutions which make up the network are: Charles Sturt University, CQ University Australia, Federation University, Southern Cross University, University of New England, University of Southern Queensland and University of the Sunshine Coast.
The group’s purpose is to provide political advice to the government, particularly regarding the development of higher education and strengthening and promoting the universities’ contributions to regional and national development. In addition, it seeks to build institutional capacity and sustainability through sharing better practices in education, qualification, research, and organizational management, particularly regarding regional contexts.
