Key topics included universities, scholarships and life experiences in the country
Paula Manozzo, Global Affairs Canada Trade Commissioner Assistant, and Renata Ligabue, Ambassador of Université de Montréal came to PUCRS on Feb 28 to join an informal talk on graduate and undergraduate education as well as scholarships opportunities in Canada. The event was offered in support of the academic mobility program Emerging Leaders in The Americas Program (ELAP), and is promoted by the Office of International and Institutional Affairs (AAII) to PUCRS students. Prospective applicants had the chance to ask questions and learn more about important aspects of life in Canada. Brazilian students can apply for scholarships in Canada through ELAP.
Journalism major Fellipe Pacheco Vargas, a former ELAP recipient in 2017, shared his experiences in the country, as he attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University for one semester. “The experience was very helpful for my personal growth and it made a difference in my career as I became more competitive for the job market”, said he. Kwantlen Polytechnic University is one of PUCRS partners and because of that, not only can Brazilian students spend one semester there, but also Canadian ones can come here too.
Paula Manozzo, a former Tourism Management major at PUCRS stressed how important it is for Canada to produce qualified students and professionals. The Great White North is considered one of the most competitive economies on the planet and is recognized by its high quality education and, most importantly, for the encouragement to research.
Renata Ligabue, a graduate program in the Design program at Université de Montréal, spoke about the university and her experiences in the city of Montreal. The institution is also partners with PUCRS and stands out the the research activities that include a volume of investments that exceed the amount of 500 million dollars. PUCRS students interested in doing a mobility program at the Université de Montréal should contact the Academic Mobility team at [email protected].
This semester, ELAP is proud to offer seven scholarships in Canada in three different universities: Université de Montréal, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and two at the University of Regina. Today, PUCRS is partners with 11 Canadian universities, including academic mobility agreements with six of them. In 2018, two of PUCRS students will be on a mobility program there.
