International cooperation made possible through joint actions with several countries

In 2018, a number of cross-sectional actions strengthened the efforts of internationalization at the university. Multicultural competences, global view and comprehensive and multidisciplinary development were addressed to prepare the academic community for the challenges of a globalized world.
Capes PrInt
PUCRS has been awarded with a federal government grant known as Programa Institucional de Internacionalização (Institutional Program of Internationalization) – Capes/PrInt. In 2019, new projects will be carried out in order consolidate the internationalization of the university’s graduate programs.
Incoming and outgoing academic mobility

The Academic Mobility team welcomed 94 international students in 2018, from 16 countries. They took part in welcome activities in the two semesters, learned more about the culture of Brazil and of Rio Grande do Sul and checked out the different structures of PUCRS. In addition to that, 165 PUCRS students packed up for a mobility program overseas in 2018, as they had the chance to complete one or two semesters of their undergraduate program in one of the 112 universities PUCRS is partners with all over the globe.

As a response to the prominence of the university overseas, 2018 was marked by the visit of leaders of 27 countries. In an effort to develop joint work in different areas, these visits earned PUCRS a position in line with other prestigious institutions all over the world as well as relevant researchers and professors. School of Humanities professors develop actions with educators in Angola
International missions involving professors, researchers and managers have reaffirmed the university’s commitment to internationalization. PUCRS made its presence felt in important events all over the world, as it shared relevant contributions for several academic areas with the academic community. Some of those missions include: the President’s and Senior Vice President’s mission to Europe, the good practices of the Science and Technology Museum at the University of Oxford, the training sessions delivered to health care professionals in Africa and the cooperation activities with Colombia.
New partners
As a result of the high-quality international relations PUCRS has with its partners all over the world, new cooperation agreements have advanced inter-institutional projects. Together, the University and partner institutions have enforced initiatives that will be of benefit to societies. Some of these activities include: the double-degree program involving the Law School and the Universitá Degli Studi di Parma, the new cooperation agreement of research with University of Milan, the academic mobility agreement with CUAS Mainz, in Gemany and the partnership in literature and creative writing with Universidade de Évora, in Portugal.

Some of the major highlights of this year include the opening of the EducationUSA office at PUCRS, as a channel to promote internationalization and joint actions with the USA.
Lexis in numbers
Lexis – PUCRS’ Language Center played an important role in the advancement of internationalization in 2018. Throughout the year, 164 language programs at different levels were offered: German, Spanish, French, Hebrew, English, Japanese and Russian. The programs gave 1,498 students the chance to come in contact with different languages and cultures and contributed to their personal and professional development. LEXIS has a faculty of 16 teachers, seven of which are from different nationalities, such as Chilean, Israeli, Italian, Japanese, Uruguayan and Russian.
