Institute of Geriatrics and Gerontology will conduct activities with international network at University

The new Ibero-American Aging Network, formed by 7 institutions in 6 countries, aims to contribute to the promotion the quality of life of elderly individuals through a health and wellness improvement program. The initiative is headed by researchers Claudia Troncoso, Emma Chávez and Móica Tapia from Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC), in Chile.
The first online meeting occurred early in October and was joined by representatives of PUCRS, Universidad del Valle de Atemajac (Mexico), Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo (Bolivia), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (Ecuador), Universidad EIA (Colombia), Universidad Atlántida Argentina (Argentina) e Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas (Colombia). The joint work involving the Office for International Cooperation of PUCRS and the International Relations Department of the Chilean institution have resulted in an invitation to join the project.
For Prof. Dr. Douglas Sato, Director of Institute of Geriatrics and Gerontology of PUCRS, this initiative “will strengthen research and education activities in universities in Latin America to help society face challenges arising from population aging”.
The network intends to facilitate multidisciplinary work in basic and applied research and innovation with a focus on aging. It also aims to develop initiatives to improve the conditions of the population and the quality of life of the elderly.
