International event was organized in partnership with Modern Languages
PUCRS and Université Paris-Sorbonne have promoted the International Symposium l’attente/ en attente: figurations du contemporain from Oct 6 – 7, in France. The event brought together researchers from several academic institutions and cultural centers to discuss theoretical issues for the analysis of literary works in their entirety, and included specific studies on books and specific authors, including interpretations on the current literary scenario.
The participants’ varied backgrounds have shown several theoretical and methodological perspectives to the discussions. All papers presented were mainly concerned with the making of literature today. PUCRS was represented by School of Humanities’ Modern Language professors, such as professors Ricardo Barberena (event organizer and guest speaker), Altair Martins, Cristiano Baldi and Arthur Telló (guest speakers), PhD students Reginaldo Pujol Filho and Natasha Centenaro (guest speakers) and Dr Vinicius Carneiro, who earned his Doctorate at PUCRS and is now a professor at Universitè Lille Nord de France.
Barberena claims that contemporary times have been marked different traumas of mobility (refugees, social inequalities, minority identities). “During the symposium, we discussed how contemporary Brazilian literature connects to this delicate global crisis”, says he.
