Italian theoretical physicist has visited the University and delivered a lecture for Fronteiras do Pensamento
Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli came to Porto Alegre last week and his trip to PUCRS included a visit to the Brain Institute (BraIns) and an informal gathering with some of the University’s graduate students and professors. Recognized as a pioneering researcher on quantum gravity, the Aix-Marseille Université professor came to Porto Alegre for a conference for Fronteiras do Pensamento, on May 15.
In his visit to BraIns, Dr. Rovelli was welcomed by the Vice President and Director of the Institute, Jaderson Costa da Costa and his team, and could not control his excitement about the structure, the interdisciplinary character of research and the services offered there. “It pleases me to see how open the Brain Institute is to all disciplines, which work together to contribute for the consolidation of the Institute. It has a very clinical approach to research as it brings together philosophers, engineers, medical doctors, physicists and neuroscientists. This is the most interesting research domain I’ve seen up until today. If I was not a physicist, I would be a brain scientist. It’s amazing to see this kind of research”, said he in his lecture at the UFRGS’ Commencement Hall.
On the same day, he joined a 40-minute chat session at the VIP Room of PUCRS’ Events Center, with the President, Br. Evilázio Teixeira, professors and graduate students. During the talk, they addressed topics such as the relationship between quantum physics, religion and philosophy. At the end, the students who had joined a promotion on Facebook, were awarded souvenirs for Rovelli’s lecture for Fronteiras do Pensamento.
