PUCRS is the best private not-for-profit university in Southern Brazil according to the ranking of Times Higher Education (THE) 2016-2017, released on Wednesday, September 21, in London, England. Only three Brazilian private not-for-profit universities are on the list.
The ranking brings only three institutions from the state of Rio Grande do Sul: PUCRS, UFRGS and UFSM. The THE brings together 980 institutions from 79 countries, representing 5% of the world’s universities considered by the elite ranking of higher education worldwide. The ranking looks at indicators such as teaching, research, citations in scientific papers, international perspective and interaction with businesses in the area of research and innovation. Compared to the previous edition, PUCRS showed improvements in internationalization, research and citations.
In this issue, the University of Oxford has reached the top for the first time in 12 years, the runner-up being the Institute of Technology of California (Caltech), followed by Stanford University, Cambridge University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
