Representatives discussed international cooperation projects with Famecos and School of Humanities
The President of Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3, Patrick Gilli, and the Vice President of the Board of Studies and University Life, Philippe Joron, came to PUCRS to strengthen the ties between the institutions, initiate a cooperation agreement and discuss new research and academic mobility projects. The representatives of the French institution were welcomed by the President Br Dr Evilázio Teixeira, on Aug 23.
During the visit, the French delegates introduce them to the line of research in Digital Humanities, which they are working on in Montpellier, and would like to share it with PUCRS. “This is such an ambitious project that brings humanities sciences together in an effort to find solutions for concrete problems. Technology will be used as a tool to expand the possibilities for building knowledge in humanities”, says School of Communications, Arts and Design (Famecos) professor, Dr Juremir Machado, who is responsible for the actions involving both universities.
International cooperation
The partnership involving PUCRS and Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 has been active since 2006, as the first cooperation agreement was signed. In these 12 years, 12 professors of PUCRS were sent to Montpellier whereas 30 French visitors came to Porto Alegre.
“We have shared research outcomes, methodologies, theoretical insights and books. Together we have, on different occasions, organized events such as the International Seminar of Communication. We have a consolidated relationship based on the triad teaching-research-publication”, says Machado.
In his view, welcoming authorities from such an important international institution, founded in the 13th century and remodeled in 1968, is a very good reason for us to be proud and shows how effective a cooperation agreement can be. “This visit has shown us how successful and promising our internationalization efforts are”, adds he.
Capes PrInt
The partnership with the French institution is included in the Programa Institucional de Internacionalização da Capes (Institutional Program of Internationalization) – (Capes/PrInt). In Machado’s view, this joint research project will address the employment of technologies to use urban spaces in cities as well as people’s interactions and roles to be played in managing urban life. “In an era of technological cities, we investigate the present in an attempt to find solutions for the future and in ways that can make people’s lives easier today”, adds he.
The Dean of International Cooperation, Dr Heloísa Delgado, the Dean of Famecos and graduate school coordinator, Dr Cristiane Mafacioli and Dr Cristiane Freitas were also present in the meeting at the President’s Office. The visit included a formal reception as well as meetings at Famecos, School of Humanities and a tour around the Science and Technology park of PUCRS.
